Skiing is an exciting activity, but it can also involve risks. Whether on the slopes or off-piste, it is essential to be well protected and properly equipped. The ski helmet is one of the essential elements for skiing safely... and enjoying your outings with peace of mind.
WHAT CRITERIA SHOULD YOU CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING YOUR SKI HELMET?
1. Compliance with safety standards
Check that the chosen helmet is approved according to the European standard EN1077. This certification guarantees a level of protection suitable for alpine skiing as well as ski touring.
2. The size of the helmet
An effective helmet is above all a well-fitted helmet. The size is generally expressed in centimeters or in steps (XS, S, M, L, XL).
To know yours, measure your head circumference with a measuring tape: pass it above the ears, eyebrows, and the base of the skull at the back.
During the fitting:
- The helmet should be neither too tight nor too loose.
- Use the adjustment dial Cairn located at the back for optimal fitting.
- When you tilt your head back, the helmet should not touch your neck.
3. Comfort, essential for skiing with peace of mind
A comfortable helmet is one you forget about! Lightness, pleasant materials, and neat finishes make all the difference to fully enjoy your days on the slopes.
Check for comfort options such as:
- a soft chin strap against the skin,
- an integrated and removable lining,
- anti-bacterial foams,
- OSS ear pads (Optimized Sound System) or the V-FIT system to avoid any feeling of compression.
4. Helmet ventilation
The helmet is an ally for keeping your head warm in cold weather, but good ventilation is just as important to stay dry, especially at the end of the season.
At Cairn, two systems exist:
- Fixed vents: directly integrated into the helmet structure thanks to the Thermo-Flow system, they promote air circulation.
- Active vents: adjustable, they can be opened or closed according to your needs.
